360° Progressive Filtering System
The Austin Air Healthmate™ addresses the complete spectrum of air cleaning, removing sub-micron particles, noxious gases and chemicals. Austin Air's 360-degree intake system draws air into all sides of the Healthmate™, passing through a 4-stage filter.
The result is more clean air delivered faster and more efficiently than any other air cleaner on the market.
STAGE 1 - Large Particle Pre-filter Removes particles easily seen by the eye (e.g. dust, hair and pet dander). Not as important for tobacco smoke removal, but a nice added benefit.
STAGE 2 - Medium Particle Pre-filter Removes small to medium size particles (e.g. molds, spores and pollen). Tobacco smoke particles can have varying micron sizes, and while some of the particulate may pass through this layer, stage 2 will catch a large percentage of these particles.
STAGE 3 - 15 lbs. of Activated Carbon and Zeolite Removes chemicals, gases and odors. Carbon is critical to removing tobacco smoke odors ... the more the better. 15 lbs of carbon (7 lbs for JR.) is a significant amount for a household unit, and is a large reason it works so well for tobacco smoke. Note: The JR. model has only 7 lbs of carbon.
STAGE 4 - 60 sq. ft. of Certified HEPA Removes 99.97% of all particles larger than 0.3 microns. The smaller tobacco particles which passed through stage 2 will largely be captured in this stage. This true HEPA filtration is the same that is used in clean rooms and hospitals. Having a residential unit that features true HEPA filtration is a huge benefit in the management of tobacco smoke.
